Neighborhood Garage Sale Weekend (5/17/12 to 5/19/12)
On May 17th, 18th, and 19th, Oxford Hills will be having its annual garage sale, which will take place in conjunction with the community garage sales being held in the Oxford Hills West, Verona Gardens, Bradford Place and Leawood South subdivisions. This will allow us to share advertising and capitalize on the increased traffic from the other sales. Now would be the perfect time for you to say goodbye to your unwanted items, perhaps by hosting your own sale or by having a joint sale with a neighbor. Also, Big Brothers Big Sisters will be coming by at the end of the sale to pick up any remaining items. Place any items you wish to have picked up curbside labeled BBBS so their drivers can see it.
The following is a list of items BBBS can accept:
- Clothing of all sizes and genders
- Shoes
- Household items
- Sheets/Linens
- Toys
- Books
- Jewelry
- Electronics
Unfortunately BBBS CANNOT accept:
- Used Computer equipment
- Major appliances
- Swing sets
- Cribs
- Mattresses/Box Springs
- Heavy Equipment
- Tires
- Paint
- Chemicals
- Food
- Furniture
Please email (Jfields@shb.com) or call (913-766-0249) Jeff Fields, Secretary of the Oxford Hills Homes Association, if you are planning on hosting a garage sale. We need to advise the Fire Department as to which homes are participating.
Thank You to Ken Lopez and K.L. Electric Company!
K.L. Electric Company and Owner/Resident Ken Lopez has donated a significant amount of time and has not included labor costs for a major lighting system upgrade at each monument. As many of you are aware, we have been struggling with our lighting system in certain areas due to over wattage to light bulbs, old and damaged electrical wires and a few failing fixtures. This new system will allow us to use most of our existing lighting cans and include a change-over to all LED light bulbs that will require less maintenance, increase lighting and save on daily energy costs. Some areas will include new wiring and new fixtures to ensure we can keep lighting on each and every night. We would like to thank K.L. Electric and Ken Lopez for his efforts and continuing to help our subdivision by donating his time and keeping our costs to a minimum so we are able to continue to budget dollars in other areas for improvement. Oxford Hills and K.L. Electric have worked in the past to bring our lighting system up to today’s technology, and we believe this new system will provide years of maintenance free service while enhancing each entrance to our subdivision.
New Recycling Containers
We have also worked out an agreement with Town & Country to provide homeowners, who wish to obtain one, with a larger recycling container. The new containers will be similar in size to the non-recycling containers and will also have a lid and wheels. If you would like to obtain one of the larger recycling containers, please send us a message via the “Contact Us” page on the website.
Recycling Criteria
Plastic bags (i.e. glad bags, grocery bags, target, Wal-Mart and Lowes bags) and glass continue to be non-recyclable items. We will notify everyone if this changes.
